Fushigi Yuugi which is also known as the Mysterious Play, is a classic fantasy romance story about a girl who accidentally enters a Chinese magical book. The book took her to a universe where magic, war, 4 gods, and celestial warriors exists. The story is written and illustrated by Yuu Watase, it was serialized in 1992 - 1996 and became a TV series which followed three OVAs. Currently, Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden is following the hit of the series as the prequel of Fushigi Yuugi.

The story is about a book that will grant three wishes of whoever finish reading the book. Miaka Yuuki, a 15 year old food-glutton girl, first entered the book with her best friend Yui. However, both worlds separated them apart. Yui became the reader while Miaka became a character from the book who was appointed to be the priestess of Suzaku, one of the four sacred deity. To be able to come back home, Miaka has to call upon the Suzaku to grant her wish. However, she must find all seven Suzaku warriors by herself. As she was able to come back with the help of a wizard named Tai Yi Jun, Miaka returned from the book to her own world. However, she had been replaced by her best friend Yui who entered the book as Miaka came back. Would they be able to find each other again?

The series is an exciting story about true love, destiny, friendship, rivalry, courage, and hope. It is one of the most popular classic shoujo manga that was ever created in the 90s. I have seen the TV series for more than I can imagine, and it was my first favorite anime. The story not only revolves around Miaka and Tamahome's love, but it revolves the story of each character's agony, past, hatred, and revenge. It comes with intense drama that anyone who would watch the series will capture the emotions of the characters.
